The Atlanta Police Department is reminding residents not to make unnecessary calls to 911 after dispatchers recently received a call from a person who just wanted hot wings.
“So, picture this: our dispatchers are ready to save the day, equipped with headsets and superhero capes (well, maybe not the capes, but they’re still heroes!) when suddenly, a call comes in… for hot wings,” APD wrote alongside an audio recording of the call posted on Facebook. “Yes, you heard that right, someone dialed 911 to order some finger-lickin’ goodness.”
In the recording, the 911 dispatcher can be heard asking for the caller’s location and the nature of their emergency.
“I’m on the street,” the caller replies. “I was just wondering if somebody could order me some hot wings.”
“That’s not what 911 does,” the dispatcher says.
“OK. you have a good day,” the caller says.
“Now, we love a good wing fest as much as the next person, but folks, let’s remember: 911 is for EMERGENCIES only,” APD wrote. “Whether it’s a fire, a medical crisis, or a crime in progress, that’s when you give us a ring. If it’s not an emergency, we’ve got to keep those lines clear for those who really need us. Plus, we’ve got to leave the wing orders to the experts at your favorite local joint!”
