McDonald’s on Thursday announced the Grandma McFlurry, a limited-edition summer flavor that celebrates the sweetness of grandmothers.
The Grandma McFlurry, which features vanilla soft serve mixed with syrup and chopped, crunchy candy pieces, will be available at McDonald’s locations starting on May 21.
Ahead of its release, McDonald’s will roll out Grandma’s McFlurry Mobile, the fast-food chain’s take on an ice cream truck, in New York City on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, to give fans a free taste. Grandma’s McFlurry Mobile will be in Manhattan’s Herald Square from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday it will make stops at senior centers and assisted living homes in East Harlem from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and Flushing, Queens from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they’re having a major moment influencing culture – inspiring trends in fashion, decor and now, even food with our newest McFlurry,” Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s, said in a statement. “The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we’re excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives.”
McDonald’s is taking the celebration a step further, partnering with two breakthrough musicians to remake a pair of golden oldies to bring old and young together through the power of music. Singer-songwriter Remi Wolf is covering “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” and Latin Grammy nominee Jay Wheeler is covering the classic Latin song “Piel Canela.” The songs will be available on all music platforms on May 21.
McDonald’s will also donate to Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, an organization dedicated to supporting older adults experiencing isolation and loneliness.
